8vo.; publisher's tangerine grained linson boards lettered in gilt to spine, in orange letterpress dustwrapper; pp. [vi], 8-250; a near fine copy, both externally and internally, without inscriptions, in a very good, unclipped dustwrapper (£4.95) which is heavily sunned to spine (as usual), slightly faded to fore-edge of upper panel and with a vertical strip of lightening to fore-edge of lower one too, with a small 9mm x 3mm chip to surface laminate at lower edge of upper panel.
First U.K. edition. Sylvia Plath considered writing verse, as she clearly states in her Journals, "an evasion of the real job of writing". She began by writing short stories which she submitted, with a large degree of success, to various magazines and periodicals. Here assembled are all the stories which survive, save about 6 of the weakest. All prove to be fragments of her autobiography in one form or another.
